CONTACTED CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS

Posted

Dear Editor

Several weeks ago, I wrote to Chief Justice John Roberts, and I wanted to share my thoughts with the good people of Perry County. I told him I had taught students for 40 years in the area of civics and U.S. Government. In my classes, we discussed the three branches of government and how each branch had a check on the other two in order to keep them balanced.

As I see events happening in the United States these days, that system of checks and balances is being threatened. This is due in large part because of the recent ruling by the Supreme Court, which seems to have given the president power, which he has taken advantage of and is ignoring the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch when they try to limit his power.

I went on to ask the Chief Justice if he and the rest of the justices could use their power to rein in the Executive Branch in order to secure the democracy our forefathers established. If you agree, you need to call or write our representatives in Congress and the Supreme Court to let them know your concerns.
