Dear Editor
When we elect our government officials, from the local mayor to the president of the country, they represent us. Of course, we hope they will govern according to our wishes. But their behavior also represents us, whether we wish it would or not. They show others who we are.
We need to think about this at the ballot box. Does this person represent us in the way we want people to see us? This is important if you are a person who values integrity, honesty and compassion and wants to be represented that way.
The U.S. president, our representative to the rest of the world, represented all of us last week when he tweeted, “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead.”
My question to you is this: Does he represent you? Is this what you want your representative to say on your behalf? Is this who you are?
Our officials can feel however they want to feel. But when they speak, they represent us. That’s their job. That’s what we elected them to do.
Let me say clearly, this is not how I want to be represented. This president is not speaking for me.
Sincerely,
Ronda Rowland, Perryville
