WALKING, TALKING CONTRADICTION

Posted

 Dear Editor

Oh, for the love of God, Jason Smith. I had to wince at most of your April 9 contribution because if I pat myself on the back that hard, I’d dislocate my shoulder. You, sir, are a walking, talking contradiction. Your entire Easter “He is Risen!” column was textbook cognitive dissonance. I cannot imagine the severity of the mental discomfort you must have experienced stating your religious beliefs, which are polar opposite and totally inconsistent with your political beliefs and behavior. We used to call that speaking from both sides of your mouth.

While I do not hold anything against you for your self-proclaimed religious beliefs, I do doubt your sincerity. You tossed out so much baloney I was looking for some bread and cheese. “…holiest day in the Christian faith.” “My faith…has served as a guide for my work…” “standing firm in what I believe…” “carry forward Christ’s message…”

Meanwhile, that same Easter Sunday, the guy in the Oval Office to whom you are so loyal, so overthe- top generous with your adoration, to whom you are subservient to his every wish and whim, also gave us his Easter message. I’ll have to clean it up before I quote it: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the f***in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. — President Donald Trump.”

The vulgarity aside, do you consider that attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law? Well, they do. And imagine if Obama or Biden had written “Praise be to Allah” to America. On Easter Sunday, “the holiest day in the Christian faith.” Republican and Democrat Christians alike would have called for immediate impeachment. My, how we have fallen from grace.

And then, two days later, Supreme Leader stated, “A whole civilization will die tonight.” He planned to kill 92 million people, 25 million of whom are children. There’s nothing in the military’s 1,200-page Law of War Manual about whether it’s legal to end a civilization, perhaps because nobody could have imagined an American president would make such an apocalyptic threat.

You speak for my friends, family, and fellow home-towners in District 8. Are you truly representing them — their principles and morals — when you do not speak out against immorality and corruption? Or have they, too, become compromised? The answer will lie with them in the upcoming midterms. I can’t believe they would willingly abandon their ethical framework and values just because there is an (R) next to your name.

The U.S. Code defines the term “standard” as a type of flag or banner, often specifically for representing high-ranking individuals. I feel it would be fitting that when you address your constituents, there should be two of them displayed, one on each side of you, to reflect your double ‘standards.’

Choose a side, Jason — the Palestinian Jew or your Orange Savior.
