Dear Editor
This is an open letter to Perryville’s City Council. Perryville needs to get the jump on neighboring Ste. Genevieve and Fredericktown before it is too late. I have several contacts in both cities, and all of them tell me there is an ever-gaining popular push to rename their towns Trumptown or Trumpville. I also see that portions of I-70 may be renamed the President Donald Trump Freedom Highway.
Given that a higher percentage of Perryville’s population supports our great president — higher than either of those towns — I feel it should be our town, Perryville, that is renamed in his honor.
It should not be too costly, either. Those billboards on Hwy. 61 can be repainted. The aluminum city-limits signs are not expensive and are due for the population figure to be accurately reflected anyway. The biggest expense will be the paperwork and signage changes needed to rename PHS to THS. Included will be the sports uniform changes. I would suggest changing from green and white to all white to reflect the purity of our values here.
Of course, the mascot would also have to be changed from the Pirates to whatever is decided. Pirates were sea-faring outlaws and criminals with no Christian morals and no respect for the rule of law. President Trump exemplifies our own morals and values — both the family values and the Christian morals we adhere to.
One has to admit that the “Trumpville Angels” sounds like the name of a winning team that practices sportsmanship and possesses high energy.
My thoughts and prayers will be sent for the blessing of the Perryville City Council in hopes that they can move quickly before our neighbors beat us to this honor.
Respectfully,
Paul Flentge, Perryville
