The Perryville and St. Vincent track and field teams showed up and showed out at one of the few home meets on the schedule. There were several first place finishes, as well as other good performances from the local athletes at the 28th annual Perryville Invitational on April 4.
Perryville junior Ellie Gerler won both the discus (106-02.00) and shot put event (33-06.75). Fellow junior Blair Hopkins won the two-mile event with a time of 10:33.64 and the Pirates won the boys’ 4x800-meter relay (8:55.62).
St. Vincent saw both a male and female runner win an event in the meet. Clayton Gremaud won the 400m race with a time of 52.96 after placing second in the 200m. Reagan Meyer also won the 400m with a time of 1:01.74.
Those weren’t the only good performances on the day as Carter Hennemann finished second in the 1,600 meter run (4:57.11) and third in the 800 meter run (2:13.57). Jacob Schremp finished third in the discus (38.9 meters) and third in the javelin (43.26 meters) James Unterreiner finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (25.73) and Ethan Hotop finished fifth in the 3,200 meter run (11:32.58)
The relay teams did well as the 4x400 team finished fourth (3:53.18) and the 4x800 team finished fifth (9:13.42.)
