Dexter — The Saxony Crusaders improved to 2-1 on the soccer pitch following a 7-0 win over Dexter on September 3.
Liem Nations of St. Vincent led the Crusaders with a dominant offensive performance, scoring three goals, picking up an assist along the way.
Colten Cissell scored a pair of goals as well. Cain Cissell and Simon Mays also added goals in the lopsided victory. Bryce Meyer picked up an assist on the first Colton Cissell goal.
On defense, goalkeeper Austin Fulford picked up his first clean sheet of the season in the shutout.
“Fulford’s been an animal for us back there all year,” head coach Chris Crawfod said. “.But you know we defend as a team. “I’m really happy with the way that we defended for the most part. We didn’t really give up too many shots, it was kind of a total team effort in that sense.”
The win gives the Crusaders some momentum back after a tough 2-3 loss to Farmington that went to two overtime periods.
Crawford said he will gladly take the win, but he still saw a lot that needed to work on going forward.
“We had a lot of really good performances, but I would say we were a little bit too lackadaisical at times,” Crawford said. “that gave us some problems, we didn’t have the same intensity that we had played the first two games with, but obviously we were happy to get a W and move on.”
The Crusaders will look to capitalize on the momentum as they settle in for five straight home matches in September before hitting the road again.
“We tend to play a little bit better at home, have a little more energy, which is awesome,” Crawford said. And so having a big win and rolling into next week with the big district opponent on Thursday and Fredericktown on Tuesday, it’s always easier to go after a win than it is a loss.”
