ARNOLD — The St. Vincent cross country team competed in the Ed White Festival of Races hosted by Fox on Sept. 24.
The Indians had a good showing in the event, setting a school record in the process.
Senior Carter Hennemann finished third overall out of more than 100 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 48.40 seconds, in the 5,000-meter run.
This was a personal best for Hennemann and a school record for St. Vincent.
“[Hennemann] has been chasing that for a couple of years now since he set it back as a sophomore, so it was good to finally see him get that,” head coach John McLain said of Hennemann’s record setting time. “He’d come within a couple seconds on a few different occasions so to finally get it was, I think, kind of a weight lifted.”
Luke Ryan was 34th in 18:01.00; Jackson Strattman was 46th in 18:30.10; Adam Rahn was 100th in 20:46.60; and Tristin Anders was 118th with a time of 24:42.20
Two girls ran for St. Vincent in the meet. Anna Welker finished 10th with a time of 20:43.40 and Adeline Carlton finished 77th with a time of 23:53.50. 119 girls ran in the meet.
The girls team did not bring enough runners to place in the team points. The boys finished 11th out of 17 as a team.
McLain said that since the majority of schools in the meet were not schools St. Vincent would be seeing in district competition, they were not worried about their overall team finishes, and wanted to focus on running well individually, of the 13 runners across both teams, 10 recorded new personal best times.
St. Vincent will compete next in the Perryville High School Cutlass invitational, full coverage of which will be in next week’s edition.
