Two organizations with a shared focus on community impact came together March 16 to help address childhood hunger in Perry County.
MTN OPS and Buchheit partnered to pack more than 25,000 meals during a volunteer- driven event at the Perry Park Center. The meals are intended to support children who may have limited access to food over the weekend, when school meal programs are not available.
Organizers noted that many families face added challenges between Friday and Monday, with some children returning home to nearly empty pantries.
Volunteers, employees and community members worked together to assemble shelf-stable, nutritious meals that have since been distributed through local food banks, school programs and other community organizations.
“This event is more than just packing meals — it’s about making an impact,” said Michael Sheppard, director of marketing. “When organizations and communities come together with a shared mission, we can create real change. No kid should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.”
Buchheit Vice President of Merchandising Nathan Schilling said the effort reflects the company’s commitment to supporting families in the communities it serves.
“This is what it looks like when purpose meets action,” Schilling said. “We’re proud to stand alongside MTN OPS and our community to support kids and families who need it most.”
The one-day effort resulted in enough meals to support thousands of children, with distribution focused on reaching those most in need throughout the area.
For those not familiar with MTN OPS, the organization focuses on improving the lives of individuals and families through programs centered on physical, mental, social and spiritual development.
