Posted

Missouri’s Hunter Education Course will be offered Friday, March 6, from 6–9 p.m. at the Perryville Elks Lodge, 921 N. Perryville Blvd.

The Hunter Education Course is required for any hunter born on or after Jan. 1, 1967. Students must be at least 11 years old to participate and must complete both the knowledge and skills portions of the program to receive certification.

This training session is the final step toward Hunter Education certification, and the class is designed for participants ages 11 and older.

Parents and guardians are welcome to attend with younger participants, but they do not need to register along with their students.

Before attending the class, participants must complete the knowledge portion of the certification process. To do so, participants can either complete the online version for a fee or fill out the student manual chapter review questions. Those who choose to complete the student manual chapter review questions must bring the booklet to the event for the instructor to review at no cost. The online knowledge section and information on the student manuals are available on MDC’s website at https://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZCt. Student manuals are also available at any MDC office.

Residents 16 and older may complete the entire program online. A passing score of 80 percent or higher is required for certification. More information is available at hunter-ed.com. Self-study guide: Students may order a study guide online or pick one up at a Department of Conservation office. The illustrated manual must be studied, all chapter review questions completed, and the materials presented to the instructor at the skills session for admission. Skills session After completing the knowledge portion, students must attend a four-hour, instructor-led skills session featuring hands-on exercises designed to put classroom knowledge into practice. Prior registration is required and may be completed online at mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com.
