THE BIGGER PICTURE

Posted

 Dear Editor

It seems controversy still continues with our local hospital to some degree. Frequently, the “bigger picture” can be lost in ongoing debate and contention. I, for one, would just like to say thank you to all the Mercy Hospital and Emergency Room staff. While some small, rural communities are having difficulty recruiting medical staff and are losing their hospitals, resulting in “health deserts,” I am so grateful that our local hospital and ER continue in good stead here in Perry County.

Our elderly mother was recently admitted to Mercy Hospital through our local emergency room. She received efficient and skilled medical care delivered by personnel who seemed to really care. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every department: ER, admitting, housekeeping, dietary, laboratory, respiratory, all nursing staff and the hospital social worker, Lisa.

A special thank you to ER physician Dr. Shane Keddy and our hospitalist, Dr. Sandeep Rao. Dr. Rao even provided our mother with her own birthday cake when she remained hospitalized on her birthday. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the prayers over the sound system throughout the day were a salve to my mother’s ears.

I would also like to add that my husband and I have had similar experiences when we have had to utilize the ER or any department at Mercy Hospital.

I hope I have not missed anyone, but if I have, thank you to all. Sincerely,

Brenda Hotop Schmidt, Perryville
