SV football rolls past Bayless

St. Vincent football coach Tim Schumer wanted his team to execute in its game against Bayless.
They did so in a big way.
St. Vincent had no problems with the Bronchos as they came away with the 58-12 victory this past Friday.
“Everything went according to plan,” Schumer said. “We took advantage of opportunities, had a couple of turnovers that resulted in points. We executed very well and came away with the win.”
St. Vincent jumped on Bayless early and often as they were up 50-0 late in the second quarter.
Simon Barber scored the first touchdown on a three-yard run and the rout was on. Cruz Reitzel scored the next two touchdowns on 51 and 8 yard runs. The passing game was on point as well as Christian Schaaf threw a 10 yard pass to Clayton Gremaud and a 21 yard pass to John Schwartz for a touchdown.

The defense got into the action as well as they had two interceptions returned for a touchdown. Wyatt Winkler intercepted a pass at the Bayless 2 yard line and walked into the endzone and Schwartz also had an interception returned for a touchdown.
The Indians were able to get some of their younger players into the game as well for much of the second half.
“It was good to see them get out and under the Friday night lights,” Schumer said.
Bayless completed a long pass to get on the board in the final minute of the first half.
The win keeps the Indians alive for the I-55 Conference title. The Indians still have St. Pius, Jefferson R-7, and Grandview still on the schedule for conference opponents.
St. Vincent will face St. Pius on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the annual homecoming game.
“We want to make sure we are staying focused on the gameplan and we have a job to do,” Schumer said.
