Perryville senior Kyla Schnurbusch reached a milestone that she felt was unattainable.
Schnurbusch scored 33 points against Jefferson R-7 in a 63-20 victory Feb. 8 to surpass the 1,000 point plateau in her career.
Schnurbusch is the 12th Perryville girl to achieve the milestone and first since Amber Hacker and Krista Miesner achieved the mark in 2006.
“It’s definitely a big accomplishment,” Schnurbusch said. “It wasn’t something that I thought I could reach. When I was told that I was getting closer I was surprised. When I finally reached it, it was just pure happiness.”
Leading up to the record-breaking game, Schnurbusch was on a tear, scoring at least 30 points in three straight games. She has felt like her shot has really come together to help her achieve this goal.
“I’ve struggled on and off from my freshman year to now with my shot,” she said. “This year everything has seemed to click. When my shot is going down consistently, I don’t worry about the defender or anything. It’s really a great feeling.”
In her final season at Perryville, Schnurbusch has noticeably increased her scoring total as she’s averaging more than 20 points per game this season. Schnurbusch, who is also producing an average of five rebounds, four steals and two assists per contest, has scored 20 or more points more than 10 times and has recorded a career-high of 31 twice in the span of her last five games.
