Saxony Lutheran falls in Chester Invit. title game

The Saxony Lutheran boys picked the wrong time to have one of its worst offensive performances of the year so far.
The Crusaders struggled to make shots all night as they fell to Gibault 44-36 in the Chester Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Chester High School.
It was the lowest point total for the Crusaders this year.
For a team that is averaging 60 points per game this season, Saxony shot just 36 percent from the field in the title game, which was a main factor for its struggles to put up points.
Saxony went 1-9 from the three-point line.
John Hartmann and Owen Buchheit scored 10 points for the Crusaders in the contest, while Luke Eggemeyer had seven.
Gibault wasn’t much better from the field as they shot 43 percent and went 5-12 from the three-point line.

Gavin Kesler led the way with 14 points for the Hawks.
The title game was the total opposite of how the Crusaders played throughout their time in Chester.
After breezing by Perryville in the opening round, the Crusaders did the same to Valle Catholic in the semifinals.
Saxony defeated the Warriors 78-27 and shot much better. Against the Warriors, the Crusaders shot a blazing 62 percent from the field and was 6-12 from beyond the three-point line.
A total of 10 players scored for the Crusaders on the night, including two in double figures, which included Eggemeyer with 21 points and Buchheit with 20. Austin Hunt scored eight points.
Saxony won the first quarter 20-4 and led 36-14 at the half.
The Crusaders will have their annual homecoming game this Friday, where they will take on Notre Dame at 7 p.m.
Saxony has had the Bulldogs’ number as of late winning the last two seasons, both by double digits.
