POSL hosted 93 teams at Spring Classic tournament

Perryville Optimist Soccer League welcomed 93 teams from across the region to The Bank of Missouri Soccer Complex for a three-day recreational soccer tournament. Teams from Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Poplar Bluff, DeSoto, Farmington, Fredericktown, St. Charles, St. Louis and Southern Illinois joined 21 teams from Perryville for a fun-filled soccer weekend in Perryville May 6-8.
The Perryville Optimist Soccer League has been hosting this annual spring tournament for more than 25 years. The teams enjoyed a full concession stand provided by the POSL committee and parent volunteers and Luna’s Shaved Ice. The Spring Classic consisted of 19 divisions ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade. POSL Committee Members include Justin and Cari Barnes, Tracy Hagan, Nick Adams, Wayne Pohlman, Eric Warren, Kelly Brown, Valerie Besand, Jeff Layton, Jacob Ritter, Jason Blechle and Amanda Winschel.

“The continued success of this tournament is contributed to our countless number of volunteers, parents, referees and sponsors,” Winschel said. “Each year, the Perryville soccer and business community come together to provide this opportunity for youth in our region. The tournament also brings a great economic impact to our community. Teams stay in hotels, visit our gas stations and eat at our local restaurants.”
Teams from Perryville that placed this weekend included: first grade girls, second grade girls, third grade girls, second grade boys, both first grade boys teams, fourth grade boys, third grade boys, fourth grade girls, and fifth and sixth grade girls and boys.
