It is almost time for our Perryville High School Play. We are doing JAMES & THE GIANT PEACH (non-musical version) and it will run Thursday, October 29 at 7:00, Friday, October 30 at 7:00, and a 1:00 matinee on Saturday, October 31. This will be held at the Perry Park Center.
This is a full length children’s play, and also an audience participation show, so when kids arrive early in the lobby of the Perry Park Center, they can make a simple shark that will be used as a shark puppet for part of the show. At the end of the play, kids can come to the bottom edge of the stage and “help eat” the pretend giant 10 foot peach. Costumes are encouraged, so if they are coming on Thursday after Moonlight madness, they can come straight to the show in costume.
The story is about a little boy, named James Henry Trotter, who after his parents are eaten by an escaped rhinoceros, goes to live with his 2 mean aunts, who use him as manual labor and nearly starve him. He is secretly given a bag full of magical creatures that are supposed to help him escape his miserable life. But they spill on the ground near an old peach tree, and he can’t catch them before they have all burrowed into the ground. The next morning, his aunts notice a peach is growing, and keeps growing, and growing right before their very eyes! It gets so big that they decide to sell tickets for people to look at it so they can be rich! That night, when they make James go outside to clean up the mess from the tourists, he discovers a hole in the giant peach and climbs in. There he meets several giant bugs who are trying to leave this miserable part of the country behind. Together, they roll off the hill and into the ocean. There they have many adventures as they sail/fly to a new land, all looking for happiness and a new life.
Tickets will be $10 and can be purchased at the door. It is general seating. Since it is a shorter show, there will be no intermission, so please allow enough time before the show to grab your concessions and shark puppets.
