Patrick’s goal puts SV over Perryville in 2OT

St. Vincent girls soccer coach Todd Strattman knew the game would be a close one.
He was right on the money with that prediction.
St. Vincent freshman Allie Patrick scored shortly into the second overtime and that was all the scoring in the contest as St. Vincent defeated crosstown rival Perryville 1-0 at the Bank of Missouri Soccer Complex Saturday.
The victory for the Indians was a bit of revenge for a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Pirates on March 26. St. Vincent has been victorious in two of the last three meetings.
“I knew coming in that the game was probably going to be 1-0 or 2-1,” Strattman said. “Anytime St. Vincent and Perryville soccer plays, it always seem to be close.”
Much like when Perryville scored with 14 seconds left in regulation back in March, this version of the game was close and needed an extra period or two.
In a scrum in the middle of the box, Patrick had just enough power on the ball to put it in the back of the net for the game winner 95 minutes into the contest.
“The girls always get up for this game,” Strattman said. “The game could have really went either way. Someone had to win and someone had to lose. Fortunately for us we were on the winning side.”
For Perryville coach Jerry Fulton, he felt like it took his team a little bit longer to get into the groove of the game, if they even did so at all.
“We just came off four straight games, winning 8-0,” Fulton said. “We could basically do whatever we wanted and still dominate the game. When you play teams as good as St. Vincent, you just can’t do that. We fell into that trap a little too much for me.”

As was anticipated the game was close all the way throughout. Each team hit the crossbar with a shot in the first half. St. Vincent (8-8-1) constantly kept the pressure on the Pirate defense, which included a period of five minutes where the Indians unleashed three shots. St. Vincent outshot Perryville 9-6 in the game.
“I thought we did a great job of moving without the ball and connecting our passes,” Strattman said. “When you move the ball, it forces the other team to chase which is exactly what we want them to do.”
Strattman feels like his Indians are moving in the right direction as they go into the final stretch of the season. St. Vincent has won six of their last seven games, with the only loss coming to powerhouse Jackson.
“This is exactly where I want us to be right now,” Strattman said.

Perryville 1, Notre Dame 0

Perryville finally got back on the winning track. Cloey Richardet scored with 20 minutes remining in regulation Perryville defeated Notre Dame 1-0 on Monday. It is the second victory for the Pirates over the Bulldogs this season (2-0 on March 24). The win also snapped a two game losing streak for Perryville.
“We got back to pressing hard on the ball and winning the 50-50 balls,” Fulton said. “Forcing them to make mistakes and capitalizing on them.”
Perryville (13-2-1) forced the Notre Dame defense into one mistake and that all it took. Rachel Riney slide Richardet a ball in what Fulton called “her spot and she buried it for the only goal of the game.
“No one was going to stop that shot,” he said.
