Passing game leads Pirates past Eagles

The Perryville offense was flying high.
One week after putting up 62 points against Bayless, the Pirates tried to equal that output on Thursday, and nearly did, thanks to its passing attack.
Perryville junior Chase Richardet was a big recipient of that air raid as he led Perryville to a 48-14 victory over visiting Grandview Thursday.
Richardet had 200 yards receiving on six catches and two touchdowns, and also a kick-off return for a score in the first half and was seemingly always open. Perryville coach Brent Roth said he would go back in the football archives to see just how big of a night Richardet had in terms of historical Pirate performances. He did note that it was one of the biggest nights in the history of the program in terms of receiving.
“It was really just how Grandview aligned to our trips formations,” Perryville coach Brent Roth said. “In my opinion, they never aligned properly to that and we took advantage of it.”
Senior quarterback Rilyand Graham completed 13 of 21 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns, and one interception in his own right and Roth felt like his offense could have had an even bigger night.
“Rilyand was a little over 60 percent completions, but I can think of one catch that should have been a touchdown and we dropped several screen passes.”

Dominic Seiler started the night off with a 37-yard touchdown along the sideline and ended the game with 51 yards, while Richardet caught touchdowns of 66 and 38 yards in the first half as well as Perryville led 35-7 at the half. Kayd Luckey also added an interception return in the first quarter to put Perryville ahead 21-0.
But the passing attack was the story of this game.
“Chase was the man and he was feeling it,” Roth said. “Chase is fully capable of having good games like that against most teams that we face. Chase is starting to get some meat on his bones and has good enough speed and good route runner. He’s shifty too and if he gets behind you, he can take it to the house. We have other capable pass catchers too to spread the ball around, but Chase got the big ones.”
Drew Luckel also ran in a touchdown late in the third quarter to put Perryville at 3-2 on the year through five weeks. This is the latest the Pirates have been over .500 this late in the season since 2018.
“This is something we expected last year and I thought we underperformed for whatever reason and this season, I would say that we are right on par,” Roth said. “There are things we have to fix and we aren’t playing perfect football. Overall, we are right where we want to be. The St. Vincent game hurt, but the guys did a good job of putting it behind them. We are still in the running for a conference championship and the things we want to do.”
Perryville (3-2) will host Jefferson R-7 (5-0) for their annual homecoming game at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Bluejays defeated Bayless 70-14 last week.
“Not only is it a big game with homecoming, but a big game in general,” Roth said. “The competition is gradually getting better each week and we have to continue to match that level. It will be a test for us to find out if we are for real or just playing lesser competition?
