Moll surpasses 1,000 point milestone

With 44 seconds remaining in the Perryville girls game against Hillsboro on Thursday, history was made. Brooklyn Moll made a lay-up and surpassed the 1,000 point milestone for her career. Moll became the 13th girl to accomplish the feat.
On top of being relieved, Moll was proud of reaching 1,000 points. Moll is the first to do so since Kyla Schnurbusch accomplished the feat last season, but before that it hadn’t happened since 2006 when both Amber Hacker and Krista Miesner hit the milestone.
“It’s pretty exciting,” Moll said. “Not many people reach that milestone, and for me to be one of them is pretty cool.”
Moll has been an offensive force for the Pirates this season, averaging approximately 17 points per game. Moll has had to step into that role as a leader as she game into the season as the only Pirate with extensive varsity experience. A majority of the roster for Perryville is freshmen and sophomores. Perryville is currently 17-8 on the season, which is more than the win total from last season.
“I’ve been trying to lead this year because our team is so young,” Moll said. “I hope that I have done a good job of that.”
Moll has done just that scoring close to 20 points every night and even putting up 38 points on senior night against DeSoto on Feb. 1.

“I don’t know what got into me that night, but it was very cool, it seemed like anything I did worked,” Moll said.
Perryville coach Jason Dreyer said that Moll has been one of the top reasons Perryville is where they are this season. Moll scored nine points in Thursday’s loss to Hillsboro.
“Brooklyn had to drastically change,” Dreyer said. “We knew that she was going to have be really good offensively for us this season. However, she has been good rebounding and playing defense this year as well. Hillsboro is a tough team and we knew it was going to be tough for her to get it tonight. I’m proud she was able to do it tonight, at home, with her family here.
Perryville will have three more games this season guaranteed, and it if Moll has several good games in a row, she can climb the list of scorers in the program’s history.
Perryville will likely be one of the top seeds in the Class 4, District 2 Tournament. Park Hills Central (20-3) and Perryville are the only two teams in the district with a winning record.
“I’m sure that if we move on in the postseason, Brooklyn will be a big part of that and that will give her a chance to move up in the program rankings.”
