Letter to the Editor: CITIZENS NEED TO BE KEPT SAFE

Posted

To the Editor:
After reading the news about a center turn lane to be added to Highway 51, I decided to write informing anyone who can influence such sensible additions about two (2) more sites in in the Perryville region that need center turn lanes.
1. For the sake of safety, a center turn lane is needed in both the north and the south approaches to the Perry County Recycling Center and the Perry County Transfer Station (formerly known as the landfill). This would protect north-bounders turning in to the recycling center and south-bounders turning in to the transfer station.

2. For the sake of safety and compliance with the law, a center turn lane is needed for the westbound entrance into St. Mary of the Barrens - Shrine of the Our lady of the Miraculous Medal on St. Joseph Street/T Road. One must cross double, yellow lines, which is a violation of law; to get in there. Eastbound traffic cannot see the traffic in that spot until they pop over that little rise in the roadway which is very close, considering reaction time and braking distance.
To make this area even safer I would suggest a sign, for Eastbound traffic, which would read “Watch for Traffic Turning Across Your Lane”.
