“We hope you stop by, get a memorial poppy to wear and honor those who have given their lives for their country so that we may be free,” the American Legion Auxiliary said in a statement. “May we always have a special place in our hearts for those who have fallen and those still serving our country. Donations are appreciated so that we can continue to support our veterans. Thank you for your support.” The local American Legion Auxiliary has distributed poppies for several years, making it an annual tradition. All proceeds go toward veterans’ organizations.

National Poppy Day, recognized each year the Friday prior to Memorial Day, is celebrated in multiple countries around the world.
