The Perry Park center will be hosting a full day of independence day activities, concluding with a parade through downtown and a fireworks display at dusk on Thursday, June 2.
The day begins at 1 p.m. with the family fun day hosted by the Park Center, the free event will feature a nine-hole miniature golf course, crafts and games in the gymnasium and pool areas, face painting, food specials in the concession area, T-shirts limited to the first 100 people, and giveaways throughout the day.
The Independence Day parade, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. will begin in the Knights of Columbus parking lot and travel down St. Joseph Street toward the downtown square, turn left onto Main Street, and then right onto St. Marie Street, ending near the roundabout at Perryville City Park.
The fireworks display is scheduled for 9 p.m. following the parade. The show is expected to last 20-25 minutes. The rain out date for the firework show is 9 p.m. Sunday, July 5.
From 7 p.m until shortly after the fireworks show ends, there will be live music and food trucks at the Park Center.
The fourth of July celebrations will kick off a full month of activities for the Park Center, as July is national parks month. Other activities in July include free workout classes, free ladies craft nights, movie nights, and the senior games. The Perryville City Government also wants to remind people of tips, laws, and regulations to ensure safety during the holiday. They listed the following rules and reminders in a facebook post.
No person under the age of seventeen years of age shall possess, discharge, ignite, or explode any article of fireworks within the city limits unless under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
No bottle rockets may be sold, distributed, or discharged within the city limits.
No person shall sell, distribute, possess, use, ignite, or allow to be ignited any aerial fireworks within the city. (By definition, this means anything with a stick, such as a bottle rocket or larger rockets. Mortar rounds are allowed to be shot, but use common sense)The use of sky lanterns is also prohibited.
No person shall discharge, ignite, or explode any article of fireworks except between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. during the period from June 20th through July 6th of each year and between the hours of 10:00 a.m. on July 4th and midnight on July 4th of each year.
Fireworks are permitted in property owners’ yards, NOT in any municipal park in the city, or from the roof or from the inside of any building. Also prohibited from discharging fireworks from the city streets, sidewalks, or right-of-ways.
No person shall ignite, discharge or throw any type of fireworks from a motor vehicle near any person, group or on someone’s property.
Other Independence day events around town include a ceremony at the military museum adding eight new names to their memorial wall at 7:30 on July 2, and a “Kids day” at the Veterans Memorial on Saturday July 4.
