A groundbreaking ceremony for a two-classroom expansion at Immanuel Lutheran School in Perryville occurred on Wednesday, May 14, at the construction site.
The school offers classes for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. This project will add two larger classrooms, additional bathrooms, and a custodian room to the west end of the school.
The church hopes to have the project completed by the start of the 2025-26 school year. As of May 8, a total of $84,756.19 has been pledged or donated for the project.
Senior Pastor Matthew Marks and Pastor Joseph Schlie led the program, which was attended by community members, church and school leadership, and students.
The ceremony included the hymn of invocation, “Now Thank We All Our God,” as well as several responsive readings, the Lord’s Prayer and a homily given by Rev. Schlie.
In his homily, Schlie said, in part, “We know that nothing that’s ever built here on the corner of South Church Street and West South Street will stand the test of time. Buildings come and go. But the message that’s told here in these walls will endure. And so too will all those who believe it.
By God’s grace, our children will be with the Lord forever in heaven. And they will be with him there because of what they have learned in places like this. So, may God bless us this day as we break this ground.”
