A portion of Highway 51 was shut down earlier this month after a man allegedly threatened to harm himself and an officer.
Michael Allen, Jr., was taken into custody and issued traffic citations for driving while revoked/suspended, driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic device as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with a Jan. 26 incident, according to the Perryville police department.
The man, during a traffic stop, allegedly told the responding officer he had a weapon, identified a firearm, and indicated that he “was not afraid to use it on himself of the officer,” according to police.
Due to the proximity to a highly traveled roadway, vehicles were diverted down to Big Spring and Alma streets as well as Highway T and Lake Drive.
Perryville Boulevard (Highway 51) was closed from Alma Avenue to St. Joseph Street from approximately 10:34 to 11:04 p.m. The incident allegedly occurred at 9:12 p.m.
