A retired educator and accounting professor has entered the race for Missouri’s 8th Congressional District.

Gordon Heslop announced he has filed for the Republican primary, outlining a campaign focused on strengthening the middle class, reducing the national debt and maintaining the United States’ leadership role globally.

Heslop spent most of the past 20 years teaching on the accounting faculty at East Texas A&M University. He holds several advanced degrees, including a Doctor of Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Commerce with Honours. He also earned a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Commerce.

In addition, Heslop previously held multiple professional certifications, including Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Financial Manager (CFM), though all are currently inactive.

On his campaign website, heslopforcongress.com, Heslop outlines a platform that includes a focus on economic growth, fiscal responsibility and policies aimed at supporting working- and middle-class Americans.

He describes his campaign as “laser focused” on addressing financial challenges facing the nation while preserving America’s standing as a global leader.

Heslop cited former leaders Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill among those he most admires, reflecting his longstanding conservative philosophy.

The Republican primary will determine which candidate advances to the general election for the 8th District seat.
