A suspect in a South Carolina attempted murder was arrested in Perry County on Thursday, June 4, nearly 600 miles from the scene of the crime.

According to a report from WYFF in Greenville, S.C., deputies responded to a Quality Inn hotel in Spartanburg, South Carolina at 12:25 a.m. where one victim had suffered gunshot wounds in the leg. According to the report, the victim was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. The suspect was identified as Paxton Tyler Bullard.

Bullard, who fled the scene, faces charges in South Carolina of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, and malicious injury of personal property. Ballard is wanted on a no-bond warrant in South Carolina.

Perry County Sheriff Jason Klaus confirmed the arrest Friday morning. He said the arrest occurred at approximately 2:37 p.m. on Highway 51, close to county road 944.

“We received information that there was a wanted individual travelling in a particular vehicle with a license plate that we verified, after verifying that we then conducted a traffic stop,” Klaus said. “Upon taking him into custody we conducted an additional investigation of the vehicle. We found some more elements of a crime, we then prepared a probable cause affidavit to send to the Perry County prosecuting attorney, so he is being held on our 24-hour hold, and also on an out of state warrant.”

Klaus said after the 24-hour hold expires, Bullard will still be held without bond until officials arrange to extradite him back to South Carolina.

Klaus praised his department for how they handled the delicate and dangerous situation.

“I am very proud of our officers, all of our officers that were very alert to the incident yesterday,” Klaus said Friday morning. “ They conducted the traffic stop professionally and safely. I believe we made Perry County a safer place with the work we did.”

As of Monday, June 9, Bullard is still being held in Perry County, awaiting extradtition back to South Carolina.
