Saxony Lutheran has a new leader at the head of its girls basketball program.
“I am looking forward to the upcoming season to just see what we can do,” Crawford said. “We are coming off a strong season and I had the pleasure of coaching several of these ladies at the junior varsity level. I am ready to see what we are going to be able to do this season.”
Crawford will be the coach next winter, replacing Sam Sides at the helm. Sides was the interim head coach for the Lady Crusaders and helped lead the team to a 13-13 record and an appearance in the Class 4, District 1title game. Sides retired from coaching after the 2019-2020 season after nine years with the girls’ program and came back to coach the Crusaders in the 2022-2023 season.

In the past, Crawford has served as JV Men’s basketball coach, interim Varsity Men’s basketball coach, and last year he joined Coach Sides as the JV Women’s basketball coach.
“I was excited to get to work with him [Coach Sam Sides] as he has been a successful coach at Saxony as well as his other coaching stops. It was great to have the opportunity to work with him last year and I am excited to have the opportunity to be able to continue the tradition of excellence that he cultivated during his time.”
Crawford is the current head coach of the Men’s and Women’s Soccer program at Saxony. He experienced great success during the 2022 – 2023 season in both Men’s and Women’s soccer, as the Crusaders ended their season with fourth place and third place finishes at state respectively.
“We are very fortunate to have him [Coach Crawford] take the helm of the Women’s basketball program at Saxony as well as both soccer programs. He is an integral part of Saxony Lutheran High School, and we are blessed to have him join the Saxony family.” Saxony Principal Mark Ruark said.
