Ste. Genevieve – The Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry, which has been in operation since 1997, provides a direct connection between Ste. Genevieve and Randolph County, Ill. The ferry is utilized by area tourists, truckers, farmers, industries, and many people commuting to jobs on both sides of the river. Due to rising costs and regulations, the New Bourbon Regional Port Authority is considering permanent closure of the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry without increased funding assistance.
The ferry is operated by fees collected by riders of the ferry as well as public assistance funds provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation. Other ferry operations also receive matching public assistance funds from the neighboring states that also benefit from their operation. However, the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry does not receive any financial assistance from the State of Illinois or the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The Port Authority is conducting a public survey to better understand the local impact of ferry operations in the communities it serves and asks that people complete a quick survey about the ferry at the following web address: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QLW53FS
This survey will be open until March 7. Inquiries about the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry can be made to newbourbon@semorpc.org or by calling 573-547-8357.
