City to install lights in parks

The city of Perryville is looking into a way to brighten up the Bank of Missouri Soccer Complex.
The city is working with Citizens Electric to lights on the trail.
“We want to try and extend the hours with which people feel safe to walk on the trail there,” Perryville City Administrator Brent Buerck said. “Not everyone is comfortable walking in the dark.”
When the city created its major park improvement plan, more lights on the trails was one of the many issues that the residents of Perryville pointed out as something that could be added.
“We’ve been working for awhile on a way to successful do that,” Buerck said. “I believe that we have found a way to make it work.”

There will be five or six lights installed on the trail and then after they are installed, it will be evaluated to see if it is sufficient or more can be added.
“We are trying to keep them as overhead lights,” Buerck said. “The lights will be on the perimeter of the park so it shouldn’t detract from the soccer park.”
The project has been improved and the hope is to have it completed by the spring.
Buerck also said that the city is working on a plan for the main City Park, but that one is a little more involved and complicated.
“We hope that one follows shortly after the soccer park,” Buerck said. “There’s 1.7 miles of concrete trails in the main City Park, so there will be a lot more lights.”
