Burns named Elks' PHS 'Student of the Month'

Perryville High School senior Allyson Burns has been selected as the November Elks Student of the Month by Perryville Elks Lodge No. 2701.

She is the daughter of Brenda and Jerid Burns, and the granddaughter of Fred and Jeannette Haley and Linda and David Burns.

Burns is deeply involved in campus life, serving in multiple leadership roles across academics, athletics, and student organizations.

FFA (2022–2026), serving as Chapter Chaplain in 2023–24, Vice President in 2024–25, and currently Chapter President and Area 15 President for 2025–26. She is also active in National Honor Society (2024–2026) and is serving as Vice President this school year.

Burns helped co-found the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter in 2023 and has served as a student leader since its start. She has also been a dedicated member of Student Council (2023– 2026), holding positions including Sophomore Class Secretary/ Treasurer (2023–24), Executive Board Recording Secretary (2024–25), and now Executive Board Vice President for 2025–26.

Athletically, Burns has competed in varsity volleyball (2022–2025) — lettering her freshman year and serving as co-captain in 2025 — and in varsity track (2023–2025), where she earned a varsity letter in 2023.

Her achievements include:

■ Missouri Association of Student Councils Gold Council Award (2024)

■ Academic Excellence — Personal Finance (2024)

■ Academic Excellence — Biology I (2024)

■ Academic Excellence — Government (2025)

She has also earned Athlete of the Month honors in 2023 and 2025, as well as the Above and Beyond Character Education Award twice — in February 2024 and April 2024.

Burns credits several teachers for shaping her high school experience, including Mrs. Hendricks, Mrs. Burke, and Mrs. Comstock. She plans to attend a four-year college and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
