St. Vincent junior soccer standout Lana Adams leads a list of five Lady Indians recently honored by coaches in Class 2, District 1.
Adams, the leading scorer for the Class 2 state soccer runner-up, was named to the all-district team, along with teammates Abigail Schilling, a senior; sophomore Aubrey Emmendorfer; and junior Rylee Robinson. Senior Mallory Patrick earned an honorable mention.
“I’ve been so fortunate to have the girls I’ve had this season,” said second-year coach Cari Barnes. "It’s about them; they made this what it was. I’ve been blessed with just a great group of girls and they make my job real easy.”
The Lady Indians finished the season as district champions — their ninth district title since 2009 — with a 21-4 record and a second-place finish at the state tournament after a 1-0 loss to Clayton in the Class 2 state championship game.
It was the team’s seventh trip to the state tournament in the past 16 years, and their sixth appearance in the state championship, a run that includes three state titles and three second-place finishes. It was their first district title since 2023 and their first trip to the state semifinals since 2019.
Barnes said the selections for district honors likely weren’t difficult for the voters.
“That’s pretty much our top goal scorers in Lana and Abigail, and then Aubrey, Rylee and Mallory were just a huge part of our defense this year. We didn’t give up a goal in districts, so that’s pretty solid.”
Adams finished the season with 53 goals and 25 assists, while Schilling had 23 goals and 15 assists. Emmendorfer had 10 goals and 6 assists, and Robinson finished the season with 6 assists. Patrick had 1 goal and 10 assists.
Also on the list for district honors were Perryville’s top scorer, junior Ava Ernst, and senior Caroline Gremaud. Senior Jewel Riney earned an honorable mention.
“All three well deserved,” said Perryville coach Dwayne Hadler, “especially considering going out in the first round of districts. I think everybody recognized that they deserve the accolades that they got from their play throughout the season.”
The Lady Pirates finished the season with a record of 8-8 after falling 1-0 to Saxony Lutheran in the opening round of the district playoffs. Saxony Lutheran was eliminated in the second round, falling 6-0 to St. Pius X, and finished the season with a 9-8 record.
Three Lady Crusaders were named to the all-district team — senior Camille Richey, senior Faith Dreyer, and junior Teegan Barnett.
