Wreath laying ceremony at Missouri's National Veterans Memorial May 30

Event coordinator Stan Shurmantine will provide the Memorial Day comments at MNVM

A wreath laying ceremony will take place at Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial at 2 p.m., May 30, at the memorial located in Perryville. The ceremony will follow the singing of the national anthem by Pro Football Hall of Famer Jackie Smith. Following the wreath laying, remarks will be made by retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel Stan Shurmantine, Event Specialist and Media Coordinator at the memorial.

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Shurmantine is a native of Lexington Missouri and a graduate of Wentworth Military Academy Junior College. Shurmantine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Missouri State University.

In 1974 LTC (Ret.) Shurmantine was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served 2 years active duty, including 18 months in the Republic of Korea, and 26 years as an army reservist. His duties as an army reservist included various command and staff officer positions, and graduation from The Command and General Staff Officer College and Logistics Executive Development Course.
