As the saying goes, it’s better late than never. The St. Vincent Educational Foundation will once again hold the annual St. Vincent Variety Show.
The show will be held Dec. 3-5 at the Perry Park Center, with tickets for adults at $10 and $5 for veterans. The show was postponed from November because of illness in the crew.
The theme of the show is a tribute to the United Service Organizations.
“It’s going to be in the style of the old Bob Hope shows when he would go on the road overseas and entertain the soldiers,” Jane Schnurbusch said. “The USO started doing shows in 1941 during World War II.”
St. Vincent’s version will feature music from the WWII ear all the way to the present and will also feature some comedy acts as well.
“That’s some of the things that Bob Hope used to do over the years,” Schnurbusch said.
Schnurbusch grew up watching Hope’s USO show, especially the shows during Christmas time, it is those memories that fueled the inspiration behind the theme.
“I’ve had this idea for several years, and this just felt like the right time to do it,” Schnurbusch said.
The crew, which features mostly adults from Perry and other surrounding counties, has been working on plans for the show for nearly two years.
“We were wanting to do it last year, but with COVID we were unable to,” Schnurbusch said. “We had to wait a whole year to try to do it again. We are finally ready to do it and put it out there.”
