With the threat of Coronavirus spreading, the Perry County Sheriff's Office has decided to restrict visitation and church visits to the Perry County Sheriff's Office.
According to a news release from Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf, the following shanges will be made at the jail:

  • Weekly minister visits to inmates is hereby suspended until further notice;
  • Video visitation in the Perry County Sheriff's Office lobby is hereby suspended until further notice.  Off-site video visitation is still available, as is email;
  • Attorney visits will be allowed via video visitation.

As for the sheriff's office, Perry County residents wishing to report a crime or register a complaint are encouraged to do so via telephone or email.

"If they must come to the Sheriff's Office we suggest they limit the number of people and number of visits to this facility," Schaaf said. "We disinfect our facility regularly in an effort to keep this virus from getting started here, especially in the jail where social distancing would be very difficult."

Schaaf also said his department's dispatch operations will now include a few more questions to better ascertain what type of situation ambulance and law enforcement personnel are being dispatched to.

"We ask everyone to work with us in an effort to defeat this pandemic and get back to regular business," Schaaf said.
