For the second time in recent months, Perry County has decided to cancel an official dedication and commemoration of the new Perry County Joint Justice Center (PCJJC) located at 400 W. St. Joseph St. in Perryville, that was planned for Saturday. The original date for the grand opening of the PCJJC planned for January had to be canceled due to winter weather.
“Our community is in the midst of another crisis as we clean up from the tornado that crossed our community, destroying homes and property,” said Amanda Layton, Perry County deputy clerk, Election Division. “It will take all hands on deck to help our citizens recover, and our leaders need to focus their energy on service rather than celebration, as we were still cleaning up from January’s ice storm, and now we have many in our county whose homes are damaged beyond repair, and the largest school district in the community heavily damaged and unable to house students.”
She added that, at this time, there are no plans to reschedule the event.
Layton also noted that the county has created a page on the county’s website related to tornado recovery for citizens of Perry County at https://perrycountymo.us/587/March-14-2025-Tornado-Recovery-Resource-. The page will be updated as more resources become available for the community.
“Please help us get the word out for our citizens,” she said.
