The Lutheran Heritage Center in Altenburg has several upcoming events in the works.
Quilt displays are playing a rather large role at the museum.
“We currently have a quilt exhibit entitled ‘Your Grandmother’s Quilts,’” said Lutheran Heritage Center director Carla Grebing. “This exhibit was donated to the Lutheran Heritage Center by John and Martha Short and is from the Short’s family collections. This collection will hang in the South Gallery through mid-June.
Also in June, a traveling exhibit from the Laura Ingalls Wilder home and museum will be on display. This traveling display contains photographs and information relating to Mrs. Wilder, her famous “Little House” books and America’s westward expansion.
This exhibit will be in house during the month of June only, Grebing said.
Later next month, the museum will be featuring another quilt collection from the world-acclaimed “Poos Collection.”
“The specific exhibit that we will be featuring from the collection is entitled ‘Pieces of the Prairie,’” Grebing noted. This exhibit will be hanging starting June 26 through July 25.
“The exhibit will kick off with a presentation by one of the owners of the collection who will present history and an explanation of the exhibit,” Grebing said. The kick off presentation is Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m.
During the month of July, LHC will host a group book discussions on the work “Wittenberg ‘04” by local author, Warren Schmidt.

The first gathering will be held Monday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m.
The book is available for purchase in the gift shop at the museum.
CHURCH ARCHITECTURE
A special presentation on church architecture is set for Sunday, July 24. This presentation will be given by Dr, Stephanie Clemons, a retired professor from Colorado State University, and Bill Hart, Director of the Perry County Historical Society.
The Lutheran Heritage Center is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Center features history on the 1839 Saxon Lutheran Immigration as well as local history.
BIBLE STUDY SERIES
LHC is hosting a summer Bible Study series on Psalms. The Bible Study will be held Wednesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. starting June 1 through Aug. 17. Area pastors will be leading the studies.
The Lutheran Heritage Center also features an extensive family research library that local people and ancestors from throughout the country use to research family history.
