Letter to the Editor: Rural drivers

Posted

Dear Editor,
I live in Perryville, but I work in Cape.
I’ve been out here about 16 years from the west. I used to live in a big city and I’m used to crazy traffic, high-volume traffic and crazy drivers. Having only been out here in Missouri for a short while, I figured that the drivers  would be substantially more mellow and courteous from the big city.
Boy was I wrong.
What is this compulsions about these country drivers pulling out in front of you when you are traveling down Highway 61 at approximately 55 mph? It just seems like something out of a Clint Eastwood movie “ The Gauntlet” where every single time I come down 61, some Joe Bob will be sitting there, deliberately waiting for me to show up, and just as I’m almost there, they pull out in front of me, causing me to darn near lock up my brakes!

What the H E double hockey sticks… is wrong with these people? Why do they have this constant compulsion to pull out in front of people that are doing 55+ miles per hour on a rural country Road instead of letting them pass before they enter into the field of travel? Do they not remember when they took their driving test, and the examiner said “You may pull out in to traffic… WHEN IT IS SAFE! “
So to every Joe-Bob, Ray-Bob, Al-Bob, Steve-Bob, Bob-Bob Bob Bob Boberann and Clem, for God sakes, and everything that is holy, STOP PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF PEOPLE DRIVING 55+ MPH on the little country roads!

PS coming soon, my rant about Joe Bob, driving his tractor, 4 miles an hour, and holding up a quarter of a mile of traffic, and nobody is willing to pass the tractor!
