The St. Vincent girls soccer’s district title run came to an end. The Indians, who had won four straight district titles coming into this season, fell 2-0 to Notre-Dame St. Louis on May 18 at Cape Central High School.
The Indians claimed their first ever district title as part of Class 3 last season, and looked poised to do so again in 2022. However, the Rebels had a different idea. Notre Dame-St. Louis, who came in allowing just one goal per game this season, showed off its defensive prowess once again when it mattered most.
St. Vincent had just one shot on goal in the game, and it came well into the second half, with about 10 minutes left in regulation. Notre Dame peppered St. Vincent goalkeeper Addison Cates with shots and she ended up with 16 saves.

The game was played even in the first half, but eventually the Rebels broke through. Notre Dame-St. Louis scored three minutes into the second half on a nice cross pass. They scored with nine minutes left in regulation on a corner kick. Lucy Brann and Olivia Lane were credited with the goals.
Notre Dame (15-8-1) finished fourth in state last year and will attempt to better that mark as they advance to play Ursuline Academy on Saturday at noon in the Class three quarterfinals. The Indians started slow winning just two of their first 10 games, but ended with 11 victories in its final 14 contests to finish the season 13-10-1.
St. Vincent will graduate seven seniors from this year’s squad.(Cates, Mollie Dobbelare, Natalie Ernst, Anna Schwartz, Katelyn Sutterer, Reese Barber, Bridgette Steele)
