Ice cream social events planned for Aug. 10

Is there ever a bad time to have a cup of ice cream? Perry County Heritage Tourism will host an ice cream social event on Tuesday, Aug. 10 in celebration of the state of Missouri's Bicentennial.

“It’s really two things," said Perry County Heritage Tourism Director Trish Erzfeld said. “It’s county-wide and state wide. The state is also celebrating 200 years and we rolled it over for Perry County. We want people to go out and have an ice cream, whether that’s at home or out in the community.”

To kick off the special day, The Catalyst Center for Business will host its own ice cream social from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10.

“We are hosting an event if people want to come in and see what the Catalyst Center and even the tractor museum is all about they can do that. If they want to visit any of the ice cream places around Perry County they can certainly do that as well. We have so many ice cream options that people can enjoy. I just want people to go have an ice cream and reflect on the bicentennial.”

After people have an ice cream at the Catalyst Center they can go over to the Perryville Area Chamber of Commerce and have a second helping.

The Chamber will also be serving free cups of ice cream from 3-5 p.m. in the back of of the building.

“We have 10 gallons of ice cream and have chocolate if someone wants to put something on top of their ice cream,” Chamber Director Jackie Wengert said. “We hope that people come out and visit us.”
