City of Perryville enters into construction agreement for new fire station

The city of Perryville is inching closer toward constructing a new fire station. At the Board of Aldermen meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 7, a resolution to enter into an agreement with Zoellner Construction was unanimously adopted. The firm will handle public bidding for the upcoming project, which will be constructed on property the city owns on Highway 51. It was the second reading of the ordinance, which gave final approval for the project. The construction location is at the intersection of Highway 51 and Rand Avenue on approximately 1.3 acres, near the solar panels maintained by Citizens Electric.

“I’m really excited with what Dille Pollard has done,” said Perryville city administrator Brent Buerck. “We’re getting close, they’ll start putting together some cost estimates on it.”

One detail for the fire station that will still need worked out is whether to go with all glass doors or solid panels, Buerck noted. The Board of Aldermen were presented with a preliminary design completed earlier this fall by DillePollard.

IMPOUND FACILITY

In addition to approving a second reading for a new fire station, the board also finalized a “construction manager at-risk” agreement with Zoellner Construction for an impound facility. This will be a 7,000 square foot facility located on Delaney Street adjacent to the city’s Public Works facility. The building will have five doors, three for the police department and two for the fire department, as well as office space.

Robinson Construction, in a couple of letters of correspondence, mentioned material delays related to the city’s wastewater treatment plant for which it is serving as the general contractor.

“None of these are surprises but I wanted to let you know it’s already started,” Buerck said. “We’re going to document throughout whenever there are problems with getting what they need to get started.”

The city is hoping to get the supplies for the completion of roof repairs at the Perry Park Center by the end of the month, according to Buerck.
